The Central Cinema in Sanremo

The “Central” is a building carried out and erected in 1925 in the centre of the city of Sanremo and used as a cinema and a theatre. It’s structure presents the hall, with a layout of a Latin cross, covered by a dome which can be opened, and contains vast stalls and a gallery disposed in a horseshoe shape. The building has typical decorations of the old eighteenth-century theatres and the ceiling enhanced by the refined decorations carried out by Galileo Chini.

In 1987 the “Central” was restored, undergoing significant, important interventions of restoration. The main hall, which had been enlarged after the war, was downsized, regaining the original dimensions. This intervention allowed the reorganization of the spaces and their new destination of use as the realization of a video club.

The "Tabarin Florida" is also a part of the complex and the restoration work also involves this room which, in the fifties had become a billiard room and afterwards a warehouse.

Having been restored to the antique Liberty splendor, thanks to careful restoration, the environment was transformed into a hall with 96 seats: the cinema "Tabarin".
